Commercial vehicle specialist reports national sales slowdown but business is good a little closer to home

With recent statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) pointing to a national decline in LCV registrations across all van segments, the latest figures may come as no surprise to commercial vehicle drivers and dealers.

Light commercial vehicle registrations fell by a further 5.3% during May as the market continues to rebalance. The entire LCV market has been braced for decline since the start of 2017 after a record level of new registrations last year and two-year long period of high demand. LCV dealer David Spear however is defying market trends, reporting a year-on-year sales increase of 22%.

“We have seen a slowdown since March 2017 but our business continues to perform well. We pride ourselves on presenting the right stock of new and nearly new commercial vehicles at the right price to our customers, and this ethos has certainly paid off in the face of a national decline in registrations,” said Owner David Spear.

In addition to providing the right stock of LCVs and pickups, the firm’s recent acquisition of a second site in Cardiff has been integral to their success. Thanks to their site in Cardiff, David Spear is well positioned to serve a greater range of commercial vehicle drivers and fleet managers than ever before.

“Cardiff has been an important addition to the business, and alongside developments at our Tredegar based headquarters, we have been able to enhance our offering to customers across the M4 Corridor, Wales, South West England, the Midlands and indeed the rest of the country. Marketing in relation to current trends has also proven to be beneficial to our position within the industry. An increasing number of people are reading our advice, news and insights, and getting to know more about the brand behind these features,” concluded David.

According to SMMT, 26,982 new vans hit UK roads in May despite the fall in registrations. Trends are expected to continue in this manner, with the market remaining stable throughout the remainder of 2017.
