Daring David Spear team take on charity skydive to raise money for two great causes

The team at LCV dealership David Spear has taken on their first skydive. The skydive is just the start of a yearlong charity appeal in which the team aims to raise £4,000 for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Hospice of the Valleys. The recently launched appeal saw Laurence Winmill, Stephanie Rees and James Spear of the David Spear team jump from an aircraft in Salisbury last weekend to raise awareness and funds for the two great causes.

“There are some 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, 45,000 of which are based in Wales – that’s the whole population of Cardiff! With numbers set to rise to one million by 2021 public support is needed more than ever, which is just one of the reasons why we are fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru. The society is the leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them,” said Owner David Spear.

For Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, a donation of £10 would cover a volunteer’s travel to and from a befriending visit, whilst £20 could pay for a person with dementia and their carer to spend one hour with an expert Dementia Support Worker. Raising £65 could pay for a person with dementia and their carer to attend a dementia café for six weeks, while £1,000 could keep that dementia café operational for an entire month.

In addition to raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, an organisation that provides information and support for people with all forms of dementia and those who care for them, the appeal will also raise essential funds for the Hospice of the Valleys, a charity close to the Heads of the Valley headquartered firm. The Hospice of the Valleys cares for more than 500 patients annually with its team of specialist palliative care professionals providing hospice care to cater to people’s physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs from diagnosis to the end of their lives.

“Working with these charities and the local community is an important part of our company culture and we appreciate any contribution you can make towards these great causes. We are very kindly asking all our key suppliers, customers and partners to get involved and help us achieve our target. Every penny we raise will make a difference to our chosen charities, and we are looking forward to facing our fears and getting started with the first leg of our appeal. We hope that by achieving our £4,000 target, we can help to secure the quality care services that both Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Hospice of the Valleys deliver,” concluded David.
