David Spear Commercial Vehicles apprentice Layla Hawkins-Price is continuing an impressive apprenticeship journey after being named Coleg Gwent Apprentice of the Year.
Layla began her apprenticeship at Coleg Gwent in Newport, where her hard work and progress saw her named Apprentice of the Month on several occasions before going on to win the college’s Apprentice of the Year award.
She has now moved to Cardiff and Vale College, where she is completing the third year of her apprenticeship and working towards her Level 3 qualification, while continuing to gain valuable hands-on experience at David Spear Commercial Vehicles.
Her success has continued, with Layla recently finishing third in Wales in the Welsh Skills Competition, competing against other apprentices and skilled individuals from across Wales.
For Layla, choosing an apprenticeship was a deliberate decision to combine education with real-world experience. Rather than simply studying for a qualification, she wanted to develop her skills in a working environment while gaining a recognised qualification at the same time.
The experience has helped her develop not only technically, but also in confidence and her understanding of what is required to build a successful career within the industry.
Layla is keen to continue developing her skills and experience with David Spear Commercial Vehicles, with the ambition of building a long-term career with the company.
