Commercial vehicle dealer David Spear helps to save volunteer run, community supported nursery with vital fundraising

Despite their nationwide reach, commercial vehicle expert David Spear Commercial Vehicles is one firm that is proud of its roots, and since its establishment the Heads of The Valleys based company has run several initiatives to support its local community. Their latest fundraising campaign saw essential funds gathered for Bedlinog Little Cubs Nursery, a voluntary run, community supported nursery in Treharris, Merthyr Tydfil.

As well as the nursery being a vital part of the local community, it also has a very special place in the heart of David Spear Commercials’ heart, as Purchasing Manager Dylan Thomas explains, “I was at one of my local pubs, the Bedlinog Inn, when I heard a conversation at the bar involving the Director of Smerdon Tree Services about the voluntary run nursery. Despite its place in the community and the essential services it provides to local children and their parents, the nursery was facing closure, something that Smerdon Tree Services was determined to step in to help stop. After hearing of their plight, I also discovered that my niece attends this very nursery three times a week, which got me thinking what I could do to help too.”

With funding and support from Smerdon Tree Services helping to keep the nursery’s doors open, Dylan and the rest of the David Spear team also got to work to raise funds.

“To raise money for Bedlinog Little Cubs Nursery I took part in the Caerphilly 10K this summer joining 2,300 other runners to take on the course. As a result, I’m pleased to announce that I raised a balance of £1,000, all of which will go to the nursery! I also secured sponsorship from Enterprise Rent-A-Car to bolster funds further, and hope that our fundraising efforts mean that the children and parents of Treharris can enjoy the nursery for weeks and months to come,” concluded Dylan.
