Having supplied South Wales with commercial vehicles for almost 30 years, in 2015 David Spear Commercial Vehicles decided that it was time to give back to the local community that helped them become one of the leading companies in new and quality used commercial vehicle sales across the UK. They set out a number of initiatives that would see them help local charities and sporting organisations. The results were them raising almost £15,000 for both charities and sports teams in the South Wales area.

The main initiative of their Charity Year 2015 was raising money for local charities that were close to the hearts of the staff. Each month a charity was chosen by a member of staff and £10 was donated by David Spear for every vehicle sold. Local charities included Hospice of the Valleys, Headway Cardiff & the North Gwent Cardiac Rehab Charity. Other charities included the Alzheimer’s Society, Hope Rescue & Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB). Their efforts gained them a visit from the Mayor of Tredegar, Ryan Watkins who is also a huge supporter of the RNIB: “As an ambassador for the RNIB, during my term as Mayor and suffering with some sight loss myself, I have come to see first-hand the amazing work and support that the RNIB give to those who suffer. I would like to thank David Spear Commercials, for the amazing fundraising they have done”

Other initiatives include their Kitted Out campaign where they donated sponsorship money to local sporting organisations. They set out a challenge for local teams to create images, slideshows and/or video proving why they deserved the sponsorship money. A particular highlight has to go to ‘Ystrad Mynach Netball Team’ who made a sporting video rendition of Beyonce’s ‘Run The World’. Other teams included Cardiff Spartans Rugby League, Tredegar FC & Devils Martial Arts. David Spear said “Following almost 30 years of custom from the local communities it’s very rewarding to be able to give back to local charities & sports teams, this is something that we will definitely continue to do in the future”
