DSC and Enterprise team up to support Team Ollie and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital
David Spear Commercials have teamed up with Team Ollie & Enterprise Rent-A-Car to help raise almost £18,000 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. On the 22nd of March 2015 members of the David Spear Commercial Team were part of another team, Team Ollie and took part in the Merthyr Half Marathon.
Team Ollie is a team in memory of the beautiful boy Ollie who tragically died during an operation at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. He was just 7 months old. He was a beautiful happy baby, always laughing and smiling and is missed very much.
The purpose of Team Ollie was to raise as much money as possible to donate to the Bereavement Department – known as the Rainbow Suite, at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Joanne & Steven, Ollie’s parents said “We can’t thank them enough for the way they looked after our Ollie and ourselves after his death. Sally and Donna, our support workers, were amazing. They made it possible so we could spend the last moments with our precious boy, cuddle him and spend as much time with him as we liked. It was such a devastating and horrendous time, but was made special by the staff. We will never forget those last moments we spent with Ollie”
“People often donate to other charities but the bereavement side gets forgotten and until you are in that situation, you don’t realise the importance of people like Sally and Donna and the facilities available at the Rainbow Suite.
“From the money we raise we can help other families cherish those last moments as we always will.”
Team Ollie was made up of a group of family and friends of Joanne & Steven including Rhian and Dylan who work here at David Spear Commercials. Both Dylan & Rhian are keen runners but have never run a half marathon. They both set themselves very high but achievable goals and had to start their training month in advance.
They both clocked very impressive times with Dylan coming in at 1hr 59mins and Rhian coming in at 2hr 22mins, both well within their targeted times.
All in all Team Ollie raised £16,490.42 for the marathon, however the overall total raised is over £25k.
Being a very close partner to David Spear Commercials, Gareth Harris, Remarketing Account Manager at Cardiff Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch, visits the David Spear Commercials showroom on a regular basis so knew a lot about the fundraising for Team Ollie and donated an additional £1,500 to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
